Magic Obelisk Confirmed for WiiWare 28th December -1.052009-12-23 08:00:45dascrow

Game Arts has today announced that action-adventure game The Magic Obelisk will be available on WiiWare in North America on 28th December 2009. This represents the first original title to be released in ten years by the Japanese developer.

The game has over 30 stages, with a storyline that features a tree spirit called Lukus who has the ability to turn himself into a tree. His main wish is to find the perfect spot to take root and then use his powers for good to help people around the world. Kind of like the tree version of Miss World. However, Lukus can only move in the shadows, so it’s your job to help him by taking control of Popo, a light spirit who can create shadows by shining his light near the mysterious Magic Obelisks.
By following Lukus on his journey, players will get to experience a vibrant fantasy world, where they must overcome obstacles, solve puzzles and meet new characters, both friendly and not so friendly.

As you can see from the screenshots, the game reflects Game Arts’ dedication to a fresh “story book” look for the game.
“It has certainly been a long time coming, but we’re very pleased to give North American gamers a chance to play The Magic Obelisk, a game that has been truly a labor of love for us,” said Kazuki Morishita, president of Game Arts. “It is our goal to bring players not only addictive gameplay, but also an emotional response to characters and their dependence on one another.”
The Magic Obelisk will be available for download for 500 Wii Points from 28th December 2009 in the North American store.

New Trauma Team Screenshots-1.052009-12-22 21:25:57dascrow

We’ve already brought you all the latest details on the new Trauma Team characters and medical disciplines, well now we’ve got some hot-off-the -operating- table screenshots for you showing you the new medical procedures in detail, and don’t they look really rather awesome?! Makes you want to go out and start operating on people for real! Let’s see, we’ve got orthopedics – screwing things in bones with great big drills; surgery – removing huge shards of glass from gaping wounds with forceps; diagnosis – looking at X-rays of brains and the like; endoscopy – um, poking at things with chopsticks by the looks of it; first response – performing an emergency tracheotomy, and forensics – for when the tracheotomy didn’t quite work out, maybe. All looking very good indeed. Well, developers Atlus U.S.A. promised that the gameplay for this latest outing in the Trauma Center series would be more authentic and less OTT, and judging by these screenshots there’s going to be a lot of serious surgery and doctorin’ going on there and not so much of the crazy plots. Can’t wait!
Trauma Team will be released exclusively for the Wii in Spring 2010.

Four New Sled Shred Screenshots Unveiled-1.052009-11-25 13:50:10Maura S
The best thing about winter sports games is that you can enjoy all the thrills and spills associated with hurtling down a frozen cliff-face at breakneck speed from the warmth and comfort of your living room without running the risk of actually breaking any limbs or freezing into an icicle. SouthPeak Games’ forthcoming contribution to this glorious tradition is Sled Shred, a downhill sled racing game in which players get to use all manner of objects to hurtle downhill, ranging from tubes and toboggans to discs and bobsleds, with the ultimate aim of competing in the World Winter Games. SouthPeak has just released four new screenshots today featuring the stars of the game, the Jamaican Bobsled team, in action.

“We are very excited to bring this unique racing experience to Wii with Sled Shred,” said Richard Iggo, VP Marketing, SouthPeak Games. “A sledding game is a natural fit for Wii owners, and we can’t wait to see everyone using their natural body movements to steer their sleds down those slopes!”
In the game’s story mode, the Jamaican Bobsled team coaches and challenges players as they prepare to take part in the World Winter Games. You get to sled your way down 10 different courses, and can either challenge your friends to a race or race together against the computer in free play mode. For added realism, you can also use the Wii Balance Board as your sled.
Sled Shred is scheduled for release in the first half of 2010.

Hot Wheels Battle Force 5 for Wii-1.052009-11-23 16:55:48Maura S
Activision has announced today that Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 for the Wii™ is now available in retailers across North America. The game, which is based on the hit Cartoon Network animated series, enables players to use battle-ready vehicles to defend earth from invading alien hordes and such like.

The Battle Force 5™ of the title is actually an elite team of drivers who like to smash their way through Battle Zones in their bid to vanquish The Sark™ and The Vandals™. There are 12 playable vehicles in total, all of which can be used to perform extreme stunts and jumps. Each Battle Zone also contains a Battle Key, which players must find in order to seal the portal and prevent those pesky galactic predators from sneaking through when you’re not looking. You can also show off your battle skills against your friends in the multiplayer Battle Mode.

“The TV show is packed with non-stop action, and the game puts players squarely in the middle of it all,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “By enabling them to be a part of Battle Force 5, we are giving fans the interactive experience they’ve been dreaming of.”
“Activision has done a phenomenal job replicating the crash and bash vehicular combat of Battle Force 5 into a thrilling video game that fans of the show will love,” said Barry Waldo, VP Entertainment Marketing, Mattel.

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces Announced For Wii-1.052009-11-20 05:35:06Maura S
Namco Bandai Games today announced the European and PAL release of Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces exclusively for the Wii in February 2010. The flight action game is based on the 2008 Japanese anime feature film from acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii, and is described as having “a unique blend of high-altitude fighter action and beguiling Japanese anime production values”.

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces has been developed by Project Aces, the team responsible for Ace Combat. It boasts hi-fidelity renditions of arcade-style aerial combat, with the Wii Nunchuk used as a joystick to control the planes in flight. When not dog-fighting in the vast blue skies, players can feast their eyes on over 30 minutes of anime cinematics.
“The talented Project Aces team here in Tokyo have worked very hard to make the best possible flight game on Wii and we are very proud with what we have achieved,” said Daisuke Uchiyama, producer Namco Bandai Games Inc. “The control system lets players handle the game like a real aircraft, which is really a lot of fun for anyone who likes flight games.”
The action takes place in a world where real war no long exists, so corporations hold fictional war shows instead. In the game, you play the role of an ace pilot who has been transferred from another base to the Rostock Corporation. Also newly arrived at the corporation is a squad of mysterious new pilots who all seem to be children, including one particularly gifted young girl, Maumi Orishina.
