If you have a PC capable of playing Team Fortress 2 at your disposal, you have no reason not to be playing it at this very moment. In fact, why are you bothering to read this?

At any rate, the update that is currently released includes a wide variety of improvements such as new weapons, maps and crafting.

One of the major themes around this update was the war between the Soldier and Demoman. The winner of this war was promised a fourth weapon unlock, which happens to have gone to the Soldier. Including the previously announced items, the Solider will have access to The Direct Hit, The Equalizer, The Buff Banner and now the Gunboats. The best way to describe the Gunboats are that they are boots that will drastically reduce damage the Soldier inflicts upon himself during a rocket jump.

But don’t worry Demoman players, you will still receive your originally promised three weapons, The Eyelander, The Chargin’ Targe and The Scottish Resistance. These three weapons will no doubt fuel your need for revenge over the Soldier stealing your boots.

On top of these new weapons, the good folks over at Valve have shipped out two new maps to go along with war. The first map being Cp_Gorge, which takes place at disguised weapon factory. The map features only two control points, so expect quick rounds to take place. The second map is named Ctf_Doublecross, which has players fighting over a bridge trying to capture the enemy team’s intelligence (flag).

But wait, there’s more, don’t forget that Valve have introduced a crafting system. Players can now attempt to figure out blueprints for weapons, and in turn create them using the weapons you have already received.

As with all TF2 updates, Valve has rolled out the free weekend for the game, allowing everyone to play free of charge for the weekend. So get out there and have fun trying to snag these new weapons.

The Mass Effect 2 fan page on Facebook was updated by one Chris Preistly. In doing so he talks about “secret stuff” and a surprise coming to the Mass Effect 2 website next week.

Man, so much time tied up today in meetings and “secret stuff” I didn’t get any time with ME2 at all. =( Still with the coming surprise for next week on the ME2 website, I’m sure fans will forgive me for no update. Did I, Evil Chris Priestly, just drop a hint? Yes. Yes I did.

For now we’ll just have to wait to see what this surprise is. No official date was given, but fans should keep their eyes peeled this week on the Mass Effect 2 website.

Cryptic has revealed the free costume pieces in next week’s Nemesis Confrontation update, which come in addition to two unlockable costume sets. Among the new free costume items are some exceptionally sweet capes, although we’re sure many players will be filled with glee to see new weapons being added to the costume creator.

While these are only cosmetic costume options, they’re important to players who wield specific guns or swords. It may seem like a minor issue to some, but having an outfit that makes sense — and looks cool at the same time — is surprisingly important to players who revel in a game like Champions Online.

You can also now put guitars on the back of your characters; something that immediately reeks of potential. We have to wonder if guitars are going to be added as visual replacements for sword based powers, enabling us to whack enemies with our musical axes. If someone at Cryptic could make that so, it would be somewhere within the vicinity of pure awesome.

A new (and free) title update, now available for the PSN-exclusive Comet Crash, introduces new levels, maps, battle settings and an “expert” difficulty mode to the Tower Defense-style game. What sets Comet Crash apart from other titles in the genre is the game’s offensive gameplay, allowing players to send waves of their own forces against an ongoing alien threat. Aliens as enemies in a video game? Creativity! According to the PlayStation Blog, the 1.03 update includes:

  • “Expert” difficulty setting for seasoned Comet Crash players.
  • 4 new Resurgence levels — one unlocked at the end of each comet during the Campaign.
  • 4 new Battle maps.
  • Battle timer setting. After the timer runs out, all mobile units generate at 8x the normal rate.
  • Thorium setting to tweak available resources in Battle mode.
