A treehouse with no ladder? Apparently that is now the case. I’ve consistently recommended the Gamerchix treehouse to women that are Xbox LIVE newcomers as it’s a safe and secure space to meet and talk about games with other women while still encased within the Xbox forums. As of last week, I was still finding women in the general forums and referring them to the Chix, only to find out that they are not accepting new members.

There has been struggle and turmoil along the way since the Gamerchix founders opened the Treehouse. Men hated that women had a segregated space, lesbians could speak freely in our forums while homosexual men had no outlet to call their own, and general drama that just happens when you put that many women together in one spot, all put storm clouds over what should have been a bright sunny space. It still had its rays of sunshine though, particularly for the newcomers where they could say “Hey, I need some friends on my list” and not be bombarded with ten million comments about A/S/L and a couple of penis shots.

I know the men reading this are wondering if it’s really that bad. I guarantee you, it is.

When your first experiences on LIVE are like that, it’s easy to want to never come back. I’m positive the Gamerchix kept women coming back to Xbox and money flowing from people that might have otherwise turned their backs on the company.

The founders recently opened a site called Popchix which is similar to the Gamerchix Treehouse but allows for more expression from the group as they weren’t allowed to expand the treehouse beyond what it is now. It’s a great site and I’ll be recommending women to go there but it’s really sad that something all the women worked so hard to build is stunted in it’s growth as the community was well established and thriving.

So, if you see a woman in the forums looking for a place to call her own – Gamerchix is no longer an option. Instead of sending her a shot of your Junk, be nice and send her to one of the female gaming sites. Although there are plenty to choose from I’d recommend Popchix and also GamingAngels. I talk to women from both of the sites regularly and they are friendly, honest, and have years of knowledge behind them. All of them are ready to help as you navigate your journey through the gaming world.

It’s a scary place sometimes but you’ll have thousands of women that will have your back. You just might have to dig a little harder to find them now.

Well, Microsoft wasn’t kidding when they said they were going to be cracking down.  The banhammer has been dropped on 600,000 users, mostly for modding and piracy.  Microsoft says they are aiming to increase that number of bans to 1 million by the end of the holiday season.

It seems though that Microsoft’s call centers have been getting lit up by people complaining about their bans,

Our office has gone to hell, People have been calling in around the clock and most of them are screaming teen-agers who don’t understand the terms of use that comes with the console they bought.

Well, if you do the crime, you’re gonna do the time people.

Microsoft Bans 600k Xbox Live Accounts, More to Follow [Pinoy Cosplay]

Well, that seems like the sort of thing I’d expect to hear from Microsoft.  Although, I have to say, it’s awfully nice of Microsoft for doing something like this for its users.  The Live Rewards program will allow live users to to earn Microsoft points for renewing live subscriptions, taking surveys, signing up for Netflix, etc.

rewards

= MICROSOFT® POINTS

*IN MICROSOFT POINTS 1% DURING MONTH 1, 2% DURING MONTH 2, 3% DURING MONTH 3, 4% DURING MONTH 4, 5% DURING MONTH 5, AND 5% DURING MONTH 6. THIS REWARD IS BASED ON STAYING GOLD FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROMOTION.

**PURCHASE CAN INCLUDE ANY SELECTION OF PAID CONTENT INCLUDING MOVIES, TV SHOWS, GAME ADD-ONS, ARCADE GAMES, GAMES ON DEMAND TITLES, THEMES, AND AVATARS.

The “Reward Central” will be broken into different tiers.  There will be different rewards for different tiers.  The different tiers are Orange(the highest), Green(middle), Gray(lowest).  You will have received an e-mail if you got into the program and it will tell you which level you are.  I wonder how they determine what tier you are in.

Microsoft says “The best part is, the more you spend, the more you get,” So get spending and hope to earn some Microsoft points!  Ohh yeah, it has also been said that there could be restrictions on the Microsoft points and when you can spend them and how you can spend them.

Well, thanks for the cool rewards program Microsoft!

Getting tired of your Guitar Hero controller collecting dust?  Have no fear, Tecmo and Pieces Interactive are here!  The two are working on an Xbox live arcade title called Fret Nice. The game will be a platformer that will use the Guitar Hero controller and is set to release next year sometime.

Johan Hellberg who is the CEO of Pieces Interactive had this to say,

We felt sorry for gamers who bought a guitar only to be used for pure music games, so we made a platform game for them! Fret Nice is the perfect blend of two worlds

Well Johan, thanks for taking pity on us and coming up with this unique and interesting idea.  I for one know I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. We will give you more information as it becomes available.

With The Ballad of Gay Tony set to release this week, Xbox live is there to help celebrate the event.  On top of many things like, “Game with the Devs” and the “GTA All Nighter” this weekend, Xbox Live will be free for all non-gold members who play GTA IV, The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony.  That sounds pretty sweet to me.  The Ballad of Gay Tony is set to release tomorrow, October 29th.  Hope to see most of you on GTA this weekend for some base jumping and APC action!

NOTE: The Source had no source…this MIGHT not be true.  I could not find anything on Major Nelson’s, or Rockstar’s sites, or Xbox.com about this (yet).
