Yearning for a hearty adventure, but struggling to get by on the pathetic wages of a Caribbean flooring inspector? If so, today’s advertised Xbox Live Deal of the Day (part of an ongoing promotion) should float your cup of tea — right onto the shores of Monkey Island. The Xbox Live Arcade version of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has been marked down by 50 percent to 400 MS Points ($5).
Some readers reported having some difficulty obtaining yesterday’s deal at the advertised price. If the reduced price doesn’t reflect on the Xbox Live Marketplace yet, be sure to try again later today. And if you’re the good sort that’s already completed this classic bout of pirating, perhaps you should join us later today as we taste pies and assign numerical scores to them.
Add The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition to your Xbox 360 download queue

Well, I never thought I’d see something like this, but hey, life is full of surprises. The Crieff Hydro hotel in Perthshire, Scotland has decided that for this holiday season, video games are banned from their hotel. The hotel managing director Stephen Leckie, who is a father of four sees the role video games play in the lives of youth saying,
As a father-of-four, I’m well aware of the role that computer games play in youngsters’ lives and they undoubtedly have a place. However with Christmas holidays being the ideal opportunity to spend quality time with our families, we’re asking our younger guests to set their consoles and games aside for just a few days of the year and, instead, sample some new activities which they may never have tried before
I’m sure this will have a lot of parents Scotland that might want to give this place a shot this holiday season. While you might think, that sucks, the Crieff Hydro is offering a bunch of activities for the families staying there to take part in. Leckie had this to say,
“We’re offering festive alternatives to being glued to a computer game, with the most varied festive entertainment programme available since I took over the running of the hotel 15 years ago.
Instead of being “glued to a computer game” people staying at the hotel can partake in badminton, quad biking, outdoor laser quest, Higland games(no idea what that is), archery and family quizzes.
While it’s great to see that they are promoting family this holiday season, I personally wouldn’t be able to stay at a place like this. What about all the great games one might get as holiday gifts!

Halloween is probably second only to Christmas in terms of holiday popularity. Ask just about anybody what their favorite holiday is, and they’ll probably list one of those two (if it fits the culture). Naturally, as MMO players, we have fun celebrating it in our virtual worlds just like we do in the real world. And boy, this year, do we ever celebrate. Just about every active MMO out there had (or has) something going on. The 2009 lineup included:
Most of these events last a few days into November, so if there’s any one in particular you’re dying to experience, you might still have a chance if you have a subscription laying around. If you’re not able to visit any of these in person, we have screenshots from many of these events in the gallery below. Enjoy!
