We thought the Scribblenauts Halloween wallpaper was a one-off, an excuse to promote the game a bit more in the period immediately following its release. But, to our delight, 5TH Cell has delivered the Christmas present we didn’t dare hope for: new Scribblenauts artwork by character designer Edison Yan. It’s a Christmas miracle! Well, okay, it may not be miraculous, but it’s really nice! We don’t even care if it is a promotional effort to remind people to put Scribblenauts on their holiday shopping lists.

There are also two new Christmas-themed screenshots in our gallery. In retrospect, it was a pretty clever idea to make a game that includes multiple holiday-themed items as part of its nature.

It’s a beautiful day in the badlands, with the sun shining down on you unprotected in the wilderness, surrounded by horrible creatures and with only a few dozen bullets left before you are completely defenseless. What’s not to be thankful for? Fallen Earth might not seem like the most appropriate setting for a Thanksgiving celebration, but the game recently held a screenshot contest for either what the player’s character is thankful for or a “traditional” celebration in the wasteland. Yesterday, the winners were announced, with the top entries all receiving special in-game food that offers buffs and the essential proper nutrition for surviving the hostile environment. The first-place winner also receives a Fallen Earth t-shirt.

A small gallery is also available, with the three winners and the honorable mention available for viewing. It’s not every game where appropriate holiday celebration includes heavily-armed men standing on a farm surrounded by corpses, but it works for Fallen Earth and should provide the game’s players with some appropriate chuckles. Or, given the context, perhaps “inappropriate” is more apt.

Nexon is bringing plenty of news from the land of MapleStory lately, from new player perks to holiday events to pets.

For starters, those venturing into MapleStory for the first time will enjoy the First Job event. Players now have five classes to choose from (Thief, Pirate, Magician, Bowman, and Warrior), each with its own quest line and boss.

New players and experienced players alike will enjoy the cash back event, running from now until November 29th. Players will earn 10-15% back, depending on what they spend. Looking for something to spend all this cash on? If you’re a pet lover, permanent pets will be available in the shop for a limited time — you can choose from a Kino, a White Tiger, or a Mini Yeti.

Finally, Thanksgiving is approaching in MapleStory and the turkeys there aren’t the kind that are served with stuffing and cranberry sauce. These turkeys come in the form of invading “turkey commandos” that you will attack in the hopes that they will drop their eyes. Turkey Commando Eyes can be given to Professor Foxwit in exchange for mesos, so happy hunting!

Check out the official site for all the information on the upcoming events.

Halloween is probably second only to Christmas in terms of holiday popularity. Ask just about anybody what their favorite holiday is, and they’ll probably list one of those two (if it fits the culture). Naturally, as MMO players, we have fun celebrating it in our virtual worlds just like we do in the real world. And boy, this year, do we ever celebrate. Just about every active MMO out there had (or has) something going on. The 2009 lineup included:

Most of these events last a few days into November, so if there’s any one in particular you’re dying to experience, you might still have a chance if you have a subscription laying around. If you’re not able to visit any of these in person, we have screenshots from many of these events in the gallery below. Enjoy!

While not everyone in the world celebrates it, today is Halloween for many of us! Time for tricks and treats, spooks and silliness. It’s also a fantastic time to catch up on the holiday events in our favorite games. From going after the Sinister Squashling in World of Warcraft (again) to smacking down hordes of the Infected in Fallen Earth, there’s tons and tons of content to be had for the holiday.

This morning, we thought we’d ask you what Halloween event you liked the most – and which have you come to hate? Personally, I loved Trick-or-Treating in City of Heroes, racing up and down the street triggering doors, pounding bad guys with friends, and trying to land all the temporary costumes. The one that drove me nuts was trying to get the aforementioned Squashling in World of Warcraft, as the drop never seemed to happen when I was around. (I did dig the broom mount, though.) Let’s hear from you on which you thought were best and worst! Drop your tricks and treats in MMO merriment into our commenty space below!
