The September version update marches toward Final Fantasy XI, bringing with in a variety of new shinies to keep players happy for quite a while. (Or at least until the Final Fantasy XIV launch, either one.) While we’ve heard about most of the big updates, Square-Enix has shared a last little batch of improvements that won’t change the world, but will usher in several much-appreciated boosts to quality of life.
An additional search tag will be added for players looking for Trial of the Magians parties, to make enhancing equipment that much easier. Players will also have the option of teleporting to Abyssea-linked Cavernous Maws throughout Vana’diel, assuming that the player’s character has previously encountered the maw. There will also be a variety of improvements to the Walk of Echoes, and even more updates to the infamous fishing quest Inside the Belly. With the update due out in the very near future, there’s plenty for players to look forward to in Final Fantasy XI, even beyond the launch of its sister game.

Time travel storylines are one of the most complicated things that can be done in any sort of fiction, even more so in MMOs. But Final Fantasy XI has been working hard at keeping the story of Wings of the Goddess personal and engaging, and players have responded positively to the experience as a whole. Still, all good things come to an end, and the expansion storyline will be coming to a close with the September version update.
The small preview of the upcoming conclusion hints at what might be around the corner for the adventurers who have braved the time-ruining antics of the Spitewardens and Atomos. Lilith’s appearance marks further wrinkles in the already-convoluted timestream, with the possibility of her future inching ever closer for all of Vana’diel. If you’ve been following the story from the beginning, it promises to be a very emotional finale, and Final Fantasy XI players will be able to enjoy it starting next month.

While there are those who might argue that the release of the June version update is celebration enough, Final Fantasy XI isn’t the sort of game to let a couple of months go by without some Vana’dielian holiday event. It’s time for another fun trip into the celebration of summer, and this year’s festivities promise to celebrate everyone’s favorite part of the season: young lovers dying unpleasantly. At least, that’s what this year’s piece of introductory fiction for the Celestial Nights is promising, along with the ever-popular profiteering moogles.
Unlike several events in Final Fantasy XI, the actual process of the event over the past two years has remained fairly static, as has the backstory regarding the event. In short, it’s a chance for characters to get some unique furnishings and the ever-popular decorative pieces of armor. This year’s event will be starting on June 29th, running for two weeks until July 13th. Avid players can brush up on the guide from prior years for a good idea of how this year’s festivities will most likely take place.

There are male mito’qe and female roegadyn in Final Fantasy XIV. There’s no word currently on whether or not they’ll be playable, but the latest information put out via Famitsu indicates that they are there, at least.
For some players, simply knowing that the somewhat awkwardly monogendered races from Final Fantasy XI will be reaching the wild shores of sexual dimorphism will make the latest bits of news palatable. Others would rather hear about the actual mechanics of playing the game — and luckily for everyone, that’s included with the information as well. It’s confirmed that zone transitions are seamless, as is the background music (most likely with careful crossfades). There are stat differences between the much-discussed clans, but they’re not a huge deal — a far bigger difference is every class getting early access to teleportation and warp spells to make transportation less problematic.
We even get a bit of meta-information telling us that testing on the Playstation 3 should be coming in another couple phases. While there’s nothing world-shattering, the picture being paiinted is increasingly alluring, and it’s hard to argue Final Fantasy XIV isn’t learning a lot from its predecessor. The full list of leaked facts can be found here.
