We’ve been hearing quite a bit about niche MMO Darkfall lately, including a clever marketing strategy (depending on your point of view), and an upcoming expansion.
The expansion, titled “Conquer the Seas” will go live today, after a few brief delays. A developer post on November 18th set the expansion for “late next week”, but a week or so of delay is almost certainly worth it for a bit of extra polish on the expansion. This is the largest patch that Adventurine has ever released, and more ambitious projects are certainly more subject to bumps along the way.
Today’s developer post says “We’re getting ready with the expansion as we speak,” and notes that the EU servers will be down for the patch and could possibly be down for 24 hours. The NA1 server will remain up during that time, then experience brief downtime for its own patch. Developer Tasos emphasizes that EU players will be reimbursed for their downtime.

In the first part of this guide I covered the basics of trading in EVE Online and some of the jobs best suited to newer players. There’s a lot more to trading than buying low and selling high and in this week’s installment, I’ll cover some of the more advanced trading and marketeering tactics that have proven themselves effective in EVE. From margin trading on the market to making a living off the contracts page, anyone with enough dedication can learn to rake in hundreds of millions of ISK per day without even leaving the station. For the gamblers and risk-takers among you, market speculation and price manipulation can produce incredible short-term profit but with significant risks attached.
In this second part of my concise guide on trading, I look at margin trading on the market, playing the contract pages, market speculation around patches and the dirty art of market manipulation.

Once again, Cryptic Studios is giving you a great excuse not to spend time with friends and family over a holiday weekend. The developer’s superheroic MMO, Champions Online, will be free-to-play from November 26-30 as a promotion for the game’s second free content expansion since its launch in September.
The free update, which is titled Nemesis Confrontation and launches November 24, will include new costumes and perks, and tasks players with escaping from a hostile intergalactic prison — a mission made much more difficult by the facility’s unfriendly inhabitants, seen above. You’ll also face off against the Shadow Destroyer (the party responsible for your hero’s unrequested detention) and even your user-generated Nemesis. Sounds like a pretty dangerous calling — but nowhere near as perilous as the crushing throng of Black Friday shoppers that awaits you at your local mall.

Lord of the Rings Online is well known for its story, which it has Tolkien’s works to thank for — although Turbine does a great job of making it all come alive. These new Siege of Mirkwood screens depict a few of the new epic story moments players can expect come December 1st when the expansion is made available for purchase.
From giant spiders to cozy campfires, much about these new screens inspire. Whether thick with peril or cool and mellow, Siege of Mirkwood looks set to offer its community wonders unparalleled. Yes, we’re kind of rhyming on purpose. We blame the poetic imagery seen in the gallery below; its vistas both terrible and cold.

The Lord of the Rings Online expansion Siege of Mirkwood is expected to bring about some big changes to go with all of the screenshots and video that we’ve been seeing, and the latest developer diary entries have been giving us lots of details to read over while we wait for launch. One of the more recent ones discussed some significant combat changes, and the latest entry covers a bit more in that vein, as well as some updates to your character panel.
It’s not just a cosmetic makeover, either — gameplay has gotten a lot of work from the Mirkwood team. Three new Critical Defence statistics are added, Vulnerability has been revamped, and the differences between incoming and outgoing healing got some work too. Healing Rank and Tactical rank statistics are new as well, allowing players to increase their effectiveness by spending points.
The new character panels will reflect all of these changes and you can take a look at the diary entry for a full description as well as some screenshots detailing how it works.
