The WiiWare demo service arrives in Europe today, though a bit light on content compared to other regions. On the upside, both of the demos offered are for games that cost 1,500 Wii Points, which means you could save a pretty large chunk of change if you discover (somehow) that you don’t like
World of Goo.
In terms of stuff you pay for, Shootanto is going to be totally overshadowed by Pokemon Rumble. DSiWare has a decent selection of games, including something that looks kind of like Defend Your Castle, a few card games, and myNotebook.
- Pokemon Rumble (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,500 Wii Points)
- Shootanto: Evolutionary Mayhem (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
- Army Defender (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- A Little Bit of … All-Time Classics: Strategy Games (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
- myNotebook: Blue (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Uno (DSiWare, 1-6 players, 500 DSi Points)
- Demos: Pokemon Rumble, World of Goo (free)

Proving that there really are (really) games being made for
DSiWare without “Sudoku” in their title, Teyon has announced
101 MiniGolf World for Nintendo’s DSi download service. The game, which gets it name from the fact that it features six 18-hole courses, has yet to be dated — but at least we can get a look at it.
We became excited briefly when the announcement mentioned support for eight players … until we parsed the next few words and realized Teyon means by passing your DS around. Still, the developer is promising “mind-blowing obstacles, loops, pipes, ramps” and so forth. It would be nice to have a new DSiWare title blow our minds rather than our DSi Points.

The
WiiWare demo program arrives in Japan today, offering many of the same demos found in North America.
Bit.Trip Beat and
NyxQuest are out, and
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is in. Oddly, the
Japanese site for the demo program mentions a January 31 end date, which the North American page doesn’t. We don’t know if that’s the end of the whole demo thing or just the expiration date for this set of demos.
Also on the Wii today in Japan: two Namco arcade games which are personal favorites: free-scrolling shooter Bosconian (with fantastic “ALART” voice samples), and Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani’s weird Libble Rabble. Genterprise continues its budget series on DSiWare, with a top-down racer and a VR-looking action game:
- Bosconian (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Libble Rabble (Arcade, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
- G.G. Series Tetsubou (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- G.G. Series Drift Circuit (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points)
- Art Academy (First and Second Semester) (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points each)
- Demos: Pokemon Rumble, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord & World of Goo

Today, on the European Wii Shop, Hudson follows up its surprisingly successful
My Aquarium with more animals to take care of. Also on WiiWare, Nintendo’s still-weird Balance Board-equipped
Rock N’ Roll Climber, whose rock-climbing/air-guitar concept, and whose non-standard apostrophe use we’ll never get used to.
The big draw for us is the arcade brawler version of Ninja Gaiden, which seems fresh to us after 20 years of dodging eagles in the NES game.
- My Zoo (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Rock N’ Roll Climber (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Ninja Gaiden (Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- A Little Bit Of …. Nintendo Touch Golf (DSiWare, 800 DSi Points)

Taito surprised us with a last-minute addition to the Japanese DSi Shop, and a rather awesome one at that: a modified downloadable version of
Space Invaders Extreme 2!
Space Invaders Extreme Z features three “courses” of increasing difficulty based on
SIE2’s levels, playable in “score attack” and “time attack” modes.
Space Invaders Extreme Z is available on DSiWare now (in Japan only) for 500 DSi Points. It’s the first DSiWare game from Taito, who has released several WiiWare titles including Space Invaders Get Even, Bubble Bobble Plus, Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure! and Arkanoid Plus — all of which were released in North America.
