This week on XBLA, we have hordes of angry aliens, and an excellent competitive puzzle game in the form of Alien Breed Evolution Episode 1, and Puzzlegeddon.

Long time gamers might remember the critically acclaimed 1991 Amiga game Alien Breed. This week, Alien Breed Evolution Episode 1 hits the XBLA bringing with it updated graphics, online co-op, and leaderboard support. The game puts you up against hordes of aliens as you fight your way through five levels of a rather large space station. Alien Breed Evolution Episode 1 seems like a decent action game, worthy of the 800 Mircosoft Point price tag.

This week’s other release is Puzzlegeddon, a unique puzzler first released for the PC back in 2008. Like most puzzle games, you have to clear blocks of the same color. Unlike most puzzle games, clearing blocks earns you points toward special abilities that can be used to defeat your opponents. You can attack, defend, disable your opponent, or boost your own abilities. With solid gameplay, awesome abilities, and six player online multiplayer, puzzle game fans should definitely take a look at Puzzlegeddon. Clocking in at 800 Microsoft Points, this game will provide hours of entertainment for puzzle game fans.

Salem and Rios will be blasting their way on to the Playstation Network, and the Xbox Live Marketplace this Thursday, December 17th. The demo will give gamers a crack at most of the first level of the game, which puts everyone’s favorite two man private military team in the line of fire as Shanghai comes under attack. It’s also a safe bet that the demo will include some of the goofy dialogue, and top notch acting that helped make the first game such a hit. Check it out on your platform of choice this Thursday!

It doesn’t feel like much of a roundup when there’s just one game to be rounded up, but hey, at least the game in question is in the spirit of the season. The one and only XBLA release this Thanksgiving week is Madden NFL Arcade, a bite sized version of the popular Madden NFL franchise. Madden NFL Arcade XBLATomorrow is Thanksgiving, and what better way to celebrate than by kicking your loved ones’ asses at some football? Madden NFL Arcade is a fast paced football game with a stripped down set of rules designed to keep things fast and furious. There are no first downs, no time limit, and the first team to hit 30 points wins. Games go by quickly, and the gameplay works well for multiplayer matches. My only complaint is the lack of depth. The game is supposed to be accessible, but with only three options for each play, things get stale pretty fast. For 1200 Microsoft Points, I would have liked to see some more replay value, but hey, $15 is a small price to pay to see the look on Uncle Dave’s face when you wipe the floor with him after a hearty turkey dinner, and before the tryptophan nap.

We’re usually hesitant to spend real-life money on virtual clothing, but you can bet we’ll spring at the chance to purchase the recently revealed Sonic the Hedgehog costume pack for LittleBigPlanet. See, if we dress ourselves up like the series’ speedy, cerulean protagonist, then play one of the many, many Green Hill Zone stages crafted by the LBP community, we can pretend that we’re playing a decent, current-gen Sonic platformer.

We’ve contacted Media Molecule to try and find out the North American release date and price for this costume pack. We shouldn’t let the developer hear us say this, but we’d pay anything for that beautiful illusion.

NFSTeamRacingNeed For Speed: Shift is kicking in the NOS with some free DLC for 360 and PS3 owners.  The Team Racing pack has just been announced.  The new DLC will contain five new cars along with a new online mode.

Team Racing mode brings two teams of six racers battling it out head to head online.  Individual driving tactics are no longer enough, as teams will need to work together to take that top spot on the podium.

Four classic American muscle cars and one ricer are also part of this DLC.  The carbureted goodness includes:

  • 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427
  • 1967 Shelby GT-500
  • 1969 Dodge Charger R/T
  • 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T
  • 1998 Toyota Supra Mark IV

The DLC will be available for the 360 world wide on December 1, 2009.  PS3 fans have to wait, yet again, until December 10, 2009 in the US and December 3, 2009 in Europe.  This DLC is slated at the hefty price of FREE.
