BEST NASCAR GAME EVER!!!!!!!!! December 18, 2006 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this game last year and absolutely fell in love with it! it is the coolest racing game I have ever played. I absolutely loved the Chase for the Cup series and the Intimidator feature is really cool! I would highly recommend this game over any other racing game including Nascar 2006 and Nascar 2007.
Best Racing Game I've Played June 19, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is the best NASCAR game, or the best racing game I've ever played. And yes, I've played GT! I can't stand GT because you can't wreck, which is a big part of racing. Anyway, this game is a great improvement over NASCAR 2003. The graphics are much better, there's many more sponsors to choose from, you can own your own team, you can become a hero or a villain, and you can race four series, not just one as in previous games. The only minor complaint I have about it is the steering is extremely sensetive, and too much of a turn on your analog stick relates to a major wreck in the wall and a caution light. That can be frustrating, especially on road courses. Otherwise, this game is a super change to the NASCAR series.
I love this game! September 16, 2005 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am not even a NASCAR fan, but more of a casual observer. This game rocks! I use a steering wheel controller and it is challenging as well as thrilling. You can really get lost in the game. Wicked effects, awesome graphics, really detailed tracks and cars. Again, I love it. Unfortunately for the game, I EXPECT this level of excellence from EA as I have purchased their products from the days of the Commodore 64; they have always been head and shoulders above the rest...
Its Okay July 29, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first got NASCAR 2005:Chase for the Cup I thought immediately it would have the cockpit view. It didn't which was a shock after the success with it in the previous games. After that in Fight to the Top mode I realized another dissapointment was that they took away the choices where you can pick parts for your garage, and all of a sudden you could make your car faster by just filling in those three rows of stars. Another thing is that in the new Craftsmon Truck Series, there all the same. Its not a mix of Ford's, Chevy's, Dodge's, and Toyota's. I was happy though for how they made the sound effects of the game by wiring up a real stock car and have a professional do numerous stunts as the sound was recorded. You can't get any closer to a real sound than that in my opinion. I also like how you can now buy thunder plates with your skill points. Another thing about the game is why they took out Jeremy Mayfield and the Pocono Speedway. The new production cars are a nice touch, but, they are just stock cars that look and sound different. Even in a Daytona Prototype or a Ford GT you still have to shift up at 8000 rpm's and you only have four gears when there should be six. Luckily NASCAR 2006: Total Team Control will be much worth the wait. From what I have seen of it they have brought the cockpit view back for every series and the gauges light up blue at a night race. For some odd reason though there are no hands on the steering wheel when you drive. You'll know what I mean if you have NASCAR SimRacing. In NASCAR 2006 you can also change into your teammates cars during a race and pit with all your teammates. I was dissapointed how they took away the before and after show from NASCAR 2005, but they brought it back in NASCAR 2006 from what it looks like. One thing I dont like about all the NASCAR games is that once you got the hang of the controls, it aint competitive enough even on Legend. One thing I'd like to see them add is how in a place like Talladega or Daytona it could be two or three laps before you pass the guy in front of you. I can make my way up through the whole field from position 43 to 1 in that same amount of time, its because the drafting was made way too easy in NASCAR 2005. If I where you I;d wait till NASCAR 2006:Total Team Control comes out on August 30, 2005. It will definitely be worth the wait and money. If you already have NASCAR 2005, then trade it in for somethin else because you wont miss it when NASCAR 2006 comes out.
I hate this game July 15, 2005 Before you dismiss my review, hear me out. I loved the idea of starting from the Modifieds and working your way up to the cup. A number of the features added are pretty cool: autograph sessions, the building of your fan base, money earned from merchandise sales, etc. However, the actual game play sucks.
1. First off, you're unable to change your career settings once you've began. Typically, I like to start these things with some of the driver assits turned on until I get the feel for the physics of the game. Unlike previous NASCAR releases from EA, you cannot increase the game's difficulty after your season ends. Basically, you have to start at a difficult level and stumble your way through until your skills become polished. This drove me crazy.
2. The driving physics are reprehensible. The most slight steering input, especially the Cup and Busch series cars, translates into major direction changes on the track. I found it nearly impossible to straighten out my vehicle exiting turns or on straights because it threw my car around the track.
3. EA still needs to tweak the friend/foe interaction between other drivers. If someone slams into you or vice versa, they get pissed, no matter who is at fault. This translates into other drivers intentionally slamming your car later in the race, or in later races. This is just totally unrealistic. Sure, NASCAR drivers get heated up with each other, but I've yet to see a driver run the risk of taking himself out of a race so that he can get even with an enemy.
I'm a huge fan of the Gran Turismo series, so I don't have a problem with realistic driving physics. In fact, that's my gripe with this game. Due to the first 2 flaws mentioned, which really ruined any joy I had for the game, I put it down and never picked it back up. I don't reccomend this game.
